Turning – Fossil Creek Fall Color Print, Arizona

Fossil Creek, Arizona – 2026

Fall color at the Fossil Creek waterfall

We hiked the trail down to the waterfall at Fossil Creek and spent the afternoon in the water.

Looking down from the rocks above the pool, everything lined up at once: young trees just starting to turn yellow, backlit by the sun, against blue-green water with the current rushing past. The rocks in the foreground give it texture and put you right where I was standing.

Fossil Creek is spring fed and carries so much dissolved mineral that it builds travertine along its bed. It’s also a designated Wild and Scenic River, and an afternoon there makes it easy to see why.
