Floor to Ceiling

Antigua Guatemala – November 2025

We spent an afternoon walking the markets and talking with people. What got me about this shop was the sheer volume. One small building, and the owner had it stocked floor to ceiling, every inch of wall and everything overhead, so the whole place closes in around you as you walk through it.

I was not shooting the merchandise. I was shooting the color. Cold blue light inside the shop, a rectangle of hot yellow wall out in the street, and the doorway holding the two apart. Then a man walked across the opening while I was making the frame. Another accident, and again the accident is the picture. Without him it is a corridor. With him it is somewhere people actually live.

The wet floor does half the work, throwing the yellow back down the length of the aisle.
