This is the exact moment first light reached the peaks. Captured at 7:15 a.m. on March 28, 2026, when the sun had finally climbed high enough to clear the Black Mountains and brush gold across their summits, while the basin below still held in cold blue shadow cast by those same peaks. The whole frame is built on that contrast — gold above, deep blue below, with about forty-five minutes’ worth of sunrise hanging in the sky between them.

Shot on a Nikon Zf with the 24mm f/1.8 Nikkor and a circular polarizer, looking out across the still water of Lake Manly during its rare 2026 return. A faint peach in the upper sky and a single contrail caught what little warmth had reached the air. Everywhere else, the basin was still waking up.
